Capt. Andrew G. New, General Manager, Marina Cap Cana, Dominican Republic
Capt. Andrew G. New grew up boating with his family on the Great Lakes in Ohio and Illinois. As a youngster, he worked boat shows with his father selling a line of foul weather gear called Great Lakes Canvas that was created by his father. In 1998, Capt. New earned a bachelor’s degree in business management at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where he played on the college baseball team.
Capt. New then moved to Quepos, Costa Rica, to manage Blue Fin Sportfishing on the central Pacific Coast. In Costa Rica, Capt. New gained valuable experience in the sport-fishing industry and became an advocate of billfish conservation in Latin America. He also further developed his Spanish-speaking and writing skills and became fluent in Spanish. Capt. New later moved to the West Coast of Florida and served as Assistant Operations Manager at Marina Jack in Sarasota, FL, for five years. Capt. New is a licensed U.S. Coast Guard Captain.
In the fall of 2008, Brandy Marine International, L.L.C. of Sarasota, FL, assumed management of Marina Cap Cana at the luxury, 30,000-acre Cap Cana resort on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic.
Brandy Marine's CEO and president, Capt. Bruce Blomgren, in the fall of 2008 appointed Capt. New to the position of General Manager of Marina Cap Cana, state-of-the-art marina with an expected build out of 1,200 slips, that serves high-end yachts and sport-fishing vessels. The marina has concrete docks, in-slip technological amenities and a fuel dock with ultra-high-speed diesel dispensing capabilities. The finest concierge services are offered to marina guests. Fully equipped sport-fishing charters, complete with experienced captains and crews, are available at Marina Cap Cana, which offers superb billfishing just offshore from the marina. Additional vessel slips are planned in the future to accommodate more sport fishing vessels, yachts and mega-yachts. Capt. New oversees all Marina Cap Cana operations and facilities.
Landside amenities at Marina Cap Cana include restaurants, high-end shops, bars and the Aquamarina condominiums. The resort's beach club and a Jack Nicklaus Golf Course, called Punta Espada, are also accessible to marina guests. Capt. New and his staff are pleased to assist marina guests with accessing landside amenities.
Capt. New is thrilled to be managing the world-class Marina Cap Cana and looks forward to greeting and serving yachtsmen and sport-fishermen mooring their vessels at the marina or participating in one of its many billfishing tournaments. Capt. New enjoys scuba diving, fishing and underwater photography and is an avid tennis player when he is not out on the water.
Capt. New can be reached at (809) 695-5539 or at A.new@capcana.com for slip reservations or for information. The marina monitors VHF channels 16 and 72.
