Mary J. Baer
Mary J. Baer is Executive Office Manager for Brandy Marine International. As Executive Office Manager, Mary is responsible for all facets of Brandy Marine business operations, including accounts payable and receivable, risk management, human resources, including company payroll, benefits and hiring, maintaining all databases, initial contact with all incoming clients, supervising and training employees, arranging travel and communications for Brandy Marine’s executive team reviewing all projects and reports and extensive technical support for the staff.

In the absence of Capt. Blomgren, Mary is in charge of all staff and operations at Brandy Marine. Mary has extensive experience in all facets of the insurance industry and in executive administrative and marketing capacities for the insurance industry and other businesses. Prior to joining Brandy Marine, Mary was Office Manager reporting to the President and CEO at Soflex Online, Inc. of Sarasota, FL, a custom software and consulting firm, serving several clients in the marine industry, the hotel/hospitality industry and other industries. Her responsibilities included human resources, accounts payable and receivable, payroll and benefits, maintaining databases, converting Excel databases into Access for display on customer Web sites, Internet research, technical support for computer server, technical advisor for credit card sales and purchasing.

She was also employed as Marketing Associate to the Vice President of CNA-Stedman Insurance Group of Sarasota, FL, where she updated the firm’s Disability Claim System, created disability contracts for customers and handled all facets of conference organization and participation. She was also Assistant Manager for Human Resources at CNA-Stedman, recruiting employees and building the company staff from 18 to 32 employees.

Mary was Group Proposal Manager and Assistant Director for Oberlin-Jackson Marketing Co., Inc. of Fort Wayne, IN where she was responsible for all facets of field underwriting, preparing and illustrating group proposals for the brokerage community in Midwestern states. During her 15-year tenure at Oberlin-Jackson, Mary tripled the Group Department’s block of business in the second quarter of 1996 and doubled its business in the second quarter of 1995. Her responsibilities also included servicing existing and potential clients; preparing quotations reflecting premium activity; analyzing insurance plan design enhancements, renewing sales and rate adjustments. She trained agents and other employees on computer applications, including hardware and software, telephone communications and group products. She also organized a Cafeteria 125 Department for competitive agency sale and built an exceptional customer service base with several agents and insurance company representatives.

Earlier in her career, Mary worked for the Indiana & Michigan Electric Company, processing documents and servicing customers. She organized the office’s relocation. She also worked for Indiana & Michigan Electric documenting client identification for route drivers.

Mary is a licensed Florida Health, Life and Variable Annuity Insurance, and has completed courses in algebra, caring, chemistry and nutrition at Lutheran College of Health Professions in Fort Wayne, IN, and completed the business course at International Business College in Fort Wayne, IN.

Mary was named Employee of the Month during her tenure at the CNA-Stedman Insurance Group and coordinated the company’s Adopt-A-Family effort. In addition to her full-time employment, she provided care and served as liaison for round-the-clock care for her late mother, Mary Elizabeth Green, a stroke victim, from 1999 to 2002. She manages four properties for her family.

Mary is an avid boater, gardener, bike rider, reader and she enjoys arts and crafts. Mary is a member of the St. Joseph’s Academy Alumni Association. She is a Certified Notary Public and has worked as a volunteer for Head Start.

Mary is the glue that holds the Brandy Marine team together.
